About Kim
Kim Thomé, a Norwegian artist, has made his home in Walthamstow, London. From his studio in Leyton, he delves into private commissions and crafts new installations and furniture. Kim's journey includes graduating from the Royal College of Art in 2012, a milestone that paved the way for a series of remarkable exhibitions. His works have graced renowned spaces such as A Palazzo Gallery, William Bennington Gallery, Selfridges, Pavilion of Art and Design (PAD), Habitat, and the prestigious Wallpaper showcase in Milan.
One of his notable achievements was the centerpiece installation at the V&A during London Design Festival in 2015, a commission by the esteemed crystal company, Swarovski. Kim's creations strike a harmonious chord between installations and tangible objects, merging graphic elements with optical illusions in both material and space.
About Oriel
The Oriel" is a special piece that celebrates the old bay window that used to be on this building. It's designed like a skeleton of a bay window, with beautiful stained glass that looks like what you might find in a cathedral. When the sun shines on it, the glass and metal create moving shadows, making it seem like there's more depth, and the coloured glass reflects onto the wall.
Right across the street is a building that's been carefully made to look just like what was once here. This artwork is a way of showing respect for the past of this area. Working on this local project meant a lotto Kim, and he is really proud to be a part of how St. James Street is changing.
